Increase your PC speed without using any software .

Want to increase the booting and working speed of your PC.. Many simple ways are shown below...

1.Using Msconfig...

Go to run and type msconfig. A window will open up.Select the startup tab in it .

In this tab you will find all the applications which get started when your computer starts .
By default many items will be ticked but untick them and keep only those which you want on start of your OS .
Unticking wont disable the programs, it will only disable them to run on startup.
So by this you can boot your OS at a faster speed .

Secondly Go to services tab and tick hide all microsoft services and then untick all the services which you dont want to run on boot .

Dont worry it wont affect your PC , if any problem comes then tick that thing back .

2. Disk Cleanup .

Go to My computer and properties of your C:/
Here you will see Disk Cleanup , on clicking..it will scan and show the files which are of no use , select all the boxes according to your need and click ok and it will remove many unnecessary files .

After that type "%temp%" in the run box and a folder will open and delete all the files(which can be deleted ) from that folder also .

This thing will fasten your PC .

3. Use Disk Defragmenter  time to time , in all programs>accessories>system tools > disk defragmenter
Run it and you will see all the drives listed  and select the drive and analyze it ...
On analyzing if it says to defragment then defragment it .
This will increase the speed of system alot .

4. %Temp%

In run box type %temp% and it will open a folder...delete all the data from that folder.....

Disabling Autorun and keeping Pc virus free .

The easy but bad way- Software

Autorun commands are generally stored in Autorun.inf files. These commands enable applications to start, start installation programs, or start other routines.

AutoPlay begins reading from a drive as soon as you insert media into the drive. Therefore, the Setup file of programs and the music on audio media start immediately. Before Windows XP SP2, AutoPlay was disabled by default on removable drives, such as the floppy disk drive (but not the CD drive), and on network drives. Starting with Windows XP SP2, AutoPlay is enabled for removable drives.
When you insert any removable device...first of all a file "autorun.inf" runs and the content in it is executed,so it may contain a path of virus and hence any virus can invade ur pc easily through autorun.

So, for that you need to disable the autorun file , it can be easily done by using a software called
Virus Effect Remover and on disabling autorun if any virus is there it wont get executed and after that you can scan and remove the viruses .

So , download and install it and disable autorun as shown .

Download VIRUS EFFECT REMOVER .

A little difficult but good way- gpedit.msc

Another more efficient way without downloading any software is by using gpedit.msc or regedit.

  1. Click Start, click Run, type Gpedit.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Under Computer Configuration, expand Administrative Templates, and then click System.
  3. In the Settings pane, find the entry Turn off Autoplay and right-click on it , and then click Properties.

Note In Windows 2000, the policy setting is named Disable Autoplay.
  4. Click Enabled, and then select All drives in the Turn off Autoplay box to disable Autorun on all drives.
  5. Click OK to close the Turn off Autoplay Properties dialog box.
  6. Restart the computer.

To disable Autorun yourself on operating systems that do not include gpedit.msc, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate and then click the following entry in the registry:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\NoDriveTypeAutorun
  3. Right-click NoDriveTypeAutoRun, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type 0xFF to disable all types of drives. Or, to selectively disable specific drives, use a different value as described in the "How to selectively disable specific Autorun features" section.
  5. Click OK, and then exit Registry Editor.
  6. Restart the computer.

How to selectively disable specific Autorun features

To selectively disable specific Autorun features, you must change the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry in one of the following registry key subkeys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer\

The following table shows the settings for the NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry entry.
ValueMeaning
0x1 or 0x80Disables AutoRun on drives of unknown type
0x4Disables AutoRun on removable drives
0x8Disables AutoRun on fixed drives
0x10Disables AutoRun on network drives
0x20Disables AutoRun on CD-ROM drives
0x40Disables AutoRun on RAM disks
0xFFDisables AutoRun on all kinds of drives

The value of the NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry entry determines which drive or drives the Autorun functionality will be disabled for. For example, if you want to disable Autorun for network drives only, you must set the value of NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry entry to 0x10.

If you want to disable Autorun for multiple drives, you must add the corresponding hexadecimal values to the 0x10 value. For example, if you want to disable Autorun for removable drives and for network drives, you must add 0x4 and 0x10, which is the mathematical addition of 2 hexadecimal values, to determine the value to use. 0x4 + 0x10 = 0x14. Therefore, in this example, you would set the value of the NoDriveTypeAutoRun entry to 0x14.

The default value for the NoDriveTypeAutoRun registry entry varies for different Windows-based operating systems. These default values are listed in the following table.
Operating systemDefault value
Windows Server 2008 and Windows Vista0x91
Windows Server 20030x95
Windows XP0x91
Windows 20000x95

Tackling Some of the Most Common Viruses

1.All Folders are with .exe extension and Files are Hidden and you are unable to see them even if you have viewing of hidden files on , most probably on a pen-drive (let's say i:) .

Actually virus is a program which makes all the folders and files with system + hidden attribute and creates .exe of the folder names . For ex. you will see a folder but would not be able to enter in it as it is .exe .

Here is the wayout.. you can go to folder options and untick hide system files and you will see all the files and folders with the .exe extensions  also .
But by this the virus is not removed , so first manually delete all the .exe files and other files which you think that they could be a virus .

Now one more thing ,if you want to open a folder and you have folder options disabled , then you can just go to my computer and write the path of folder like "i:/abc" , be careful while writing this abc you will see "abc        .exe"    .exe after long spaces ,so don't choose that , just type the i:/abc and enter and you enter into the abc directory .

So,all this can give you the access to your data but can't make the files and folders as they were before , so you need to use the command prompt for that .
Go to run... type cmd.exe (if possible run as administrator) , then you need to use the attrib command .

type  "attrib  -S  -H   i:/*  /S  /D "

here you can know about all the options by using "help attrib" command .

This command will make your data on pen-drive as it was before but don't forget to delete all the unknown files and folders because if you didn't delete and click back on any of .exe , the virus will again get active and affect the data .

Disk Shrinking & Creating Multiple Partitions

Well these days as you people buy a new laptop... you will normally find only a single C: drive in it..

As you will need more drives without formatting or losing any data , here's the solution to it ...

1. Go to disk management ( either by typing "diskmgmt.msc"in the run box , or you can find it in start>programs > system tools > Disk management in Windows 7 )

2.  Now select the C partition box as shown ... and right click on it .. you will find a shrink volume option . Click on it .It will ask for space .

3. A dialog box will open here, it will show you the size of partition and will ask for the amount to shrink .
So by default it will be showing the maximum size available to shrink.

4. According to your need  you can change it and in the bottom field ( Total size after shrink ) it will tell you
the new size of C partition .

5.Click ok and it will shrink the partition and you will see free space .

6. Right Click on free space, select new simple volume and select you partition type and size of new partition and click next and its done.
You will see a new partition there, most probably with drive letter D . Here by varying size you can create multiple partitions .

7. Note that the size here is in mega bytes.

What Is MAC Spoofing?

Well, basically MAC(Media Access Control) Address is the physical address of your computer on the network you are connected on, be it Wired or Wireless(different for both). It is the unique identification code for the network adapters of the computer. When data is transferred on the network, both the IP Address and MAC Address are used to identify each computer. This is sometimes used to create restrictions on the network, such as: in many universities only specific MAC addresses that are registered with the network are allowed to use the Internet. So, if you have an unregistered P.C., and you want to use the Internet on a restricted network, you have to spoof your MAC, i.e., fool the system into thinking that you are using a registered MAC Address. But, of course, for this to work, you need to ask one of your registered friends for their MAC Address..!

Another reason to spoof your MAC Address may be if you are a hacker, then you definitely do not want to use your original MAC Address... ;-)

Windows Application Compatibility Mode

Windows Vista onwards Compatibility mode is provided in
applications. Compatibility mode allows an older application compatible for
earlier versions of Windows to possibly run in Windows 7. It runs the
program using settings from a previous version of Windows. Changing the
compatibility mode solves the problem most of the time which is generally
crashing of an application while executing it on a newer Windows. Even If
changing the Compatibility settings does not fix the problem, you need to
check for an update for that application at the manufacturer‟s website.
1. Right click on the program‟s shortcut, Application file, or installation
program.
2. Click on Properties. It will show properties of that application with few
tabs.

3. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4. To Run a Program in Compatibility Mode you can select compatibility
mode for a previous version of Windows. Choose the one this program
works well on or the one you believe this program runs well on.

5. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode Check box.
6. Now click on the drop down menu and select which version of Wind
the program was made for.

7. Few more settings can be changed to make the application more
compatible. Checking the checkbox enables that particular setting. The
settings are:
Run in 256 colors
Run in 640 × 480 screen resolution
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
Disable display scaling on high DPI settings
8. Click OK to apply the changes.

It is recommended that Compatibility mode must not be used with system
applications like system drivers or antivirus as that may cause losses & risks
to your data.
